AppleApple raises prices

I completely agree here - something has changed markedly with Apple's show of force toward millions of consumers. The only option for me as a consumer is to dial back significantly on buying electronics, which both my wallet and the environment will surely benefit from.

The article in brief: Apple has raised prices on several products, including the MacBook Pro and iPad Air, and blames the tech industry's heavy AI focus. The massive demand for AI data centres has created a global shortage of RAM and thereby higher component prices. The article does, however, criticise Apple for passing the bill on to consumers; despite record-high earnings and markedly higher margins than its competitors, Apple is raising prices to satisfy shareholders' demands for constant growth.

SnapSmart glasses are (soon) going to be big

Apple, Snap, Google... Yes, even OpenAI in collaboration with Apple's former top designer Sir Jony Ive is on its way with glasses and other smart devices that tie AI and the people who use the technology very closely together. I think it's hugely exciting what it'll all amount to. But also challenging, because devices have been brought to market before that were hopelessly bad and far too expensive.
The gist of the article: Snap has launched its new "Specs" smart glasses at a price of around $2,200 (about 14,000 kr.). Although CEO Evan Spiegel presents them as a more human computing technology meant to reduce screen time, the article criticises the glasses for being too heavy (over 130 grams), clunky and conspicuous. Snap markets them through an exclusive fashion campaign with well-known models, but the article concludes that the glasses are unlikely to become a mainstream product given the high price, the weight and the peculiar design, since most ordinary people would look nerdy wearing them.

Over the past few weeks I've been developing editorial tools to give the newsroom a better overview during Folkemødet and the Roskilde and Smuk festivals. These are small apps that work well on mobile. Besides creating a complete overview, the individual apps can also be used to save events, so journalists can more easily find their way back to an event or an important person and news story.

App: Blog post database

With over 10,000 blog posts spread across a number of blogs, it can be hard to keep track.
The app, which is integrated into our news overview, helps you quickly find previous blog posts and the direct link to them.

App: Visual map generator

A graphic tool for journalists who aren't strong on the visual side but need an easy way to edit images or create social media posts. 3,500+ elements have already been produced, downloaded and beta-tested by 18 journalists.

Developing an advanced news radar that can assess the news value, relevance and reach of both Danish and international news.

App: Case management for a journalistic newsroom

A more ambitious project to bring everything together — from shift schedules to daily lists/rosters, traffic data/traffic analysis, potential news stories and tasks — into one unified tool that uses AI to create and keep an overview of the tasks. Currently at the sketch stage and not ready for beta testing.
